Commercial is the oldest established swimming club in Brisbane. The club celebrated its centennial year in 2003, and continues to provide encouragement and support to its swimmers whether they be club night beginners or Olympic and World champions.

Originally formed as a ladies only club in December 1903, the Ladies Commercial Swimming Club met every Saturday night at the Spring Hill Baths.

In September 1913 a group of men formed the Commercial Amateur Swimming Club which also met at the Spring Hill Baths. Although they were separate mens and womens clubs, there was considerable cooperation between the committees and members to make both clubs successful over many years.

The two clubs amalgamated in June 1974 to form the Ladies and Mens Commercial Amateur Swimming Club which later became the Commercial Swimming Club Inc.
